The original of this movie has been shown quite a few time on a local cable channel which reminded me that I had seen the sequel recently and I should write something about it.The movie starts with Gordon Gekko (Douglas) being released from prison and no one to greet him and his anger with the world and who he saw put him where he was Bretton James (Brolin) and uses the anger of Jake Moore (Labeouf) who believes that Bretton was the cause of his mentors death when he bought out their company. Jake is in a relationship with Gekko's daughter Winnie (Carey Mulligan) who hates her father because of the death of her brother.
What happens is that Gekko acts true to form and then develops a conscience, revenge is got and don't get me wrong I love revenge but I don't love this movie, maybe its La Beouf who hasn't done anything that brilliant that I even own apart from maybe Constantine, Michael Douglas is so-so and the message is now that greed is not only good but legal and the background story running through the movie of what has happened to America because of banks and financial institutions.
This might have earned 3 STARS if they had ended the movie 5 minutes earlier.

I had mixed feelings after watching this movie because it left me a liitle perplexed and wondering what I missed or did I miss, I like Clooney, good actor and good screen presence and in this he starts off as a bad guy with an attempt on his life and somebody he is with in Sweden and he goes on the run and ends up in a little village in Italy vowing never to work again but is lured out with a job by his contact developing a weapon for a female client and this is to be last job ever.He develops a friendship with the local priest and a local prostitute while the job proceeds but he is being followed by the swedes and trying to kill him but he is a harried and paranoid man and trusts no one (part of his profession being a hitman I suppose). The job and movie conclude with people trying to kill him that he believed he trusted or didn't?, I found myself at the end asking questions about the Swedes, the woman with his last contract and his contact who seems to be constantly displeased with him, the priest and prostitute are distractions, the prostitute is a beautiful distraction though and the set pieces are fine.
The movie is slow paced but beautiful (what you would expect from a director who was primarily a photographer) and the liitle nod to Once upon a time in the West playing on a cafe TV but if you like Clooney (his performance of moody, brooding and paranoid should have his picture in the dictionary under these words for example) you will probably like this but hopefully not end up slighty confused as I was, 3 STARS because of Clooney, DiCaprio would have given it 2 STARS.

Finally got to watch this and while it is a good movie with an interesting story about dream invasion it wasn't as good as I thought it would be primarily as Leonardo DiCaprio was in it and he just didn't with the part and irritated me something rotten.
Don't get me wrong its a good movie with some excellent performances from Tom Hardy and Ken Watanabe among some to mention, the effects are very good and yes you are left thinking at the end about wether you need to watch this again or you got what you wanted out of it but for me my dislike of DiCaprio surfaced again after his great Shutter Island performance.
It might have been very different with a different actor in the lead like a Ben Foster or a Karl Urban?
Dom Cobb (DiCaprio) is able to use his unique skills to his advantage - he can enter people's minds through their dreams and thereby learn their secrets. He is a thief for hire but Japanese businessman Mr. Saito (Ken Watanabe) has a somewhat different proposition for him. He wants Cobb to enter the mind of Robert Fischer Jr. (Cillian Murphy), who is about to inherit his father's massive business empire, to plant a simple notion: to break-up his father's conglomerate and sell it off. In return, Saito will make it possible for Cobb to freely return to the US where he is currently wanted by the police. Cobb accepts and assembles his team with a plan to plant the idea deep in Fisher's mind by generating a series of dreams within dreams so that he eventually thinks he came up with the idea himself. As the intended deception grows ever more complex, Cobb has to deal with his own emotions and feelings of guilt, which are projecting themselves into the dreamspace. Cobb has to deal with the eventual question of what is real and what is only a dream.

All I knew about this movie was a trailer I had seen on a blog and I was interested because I have always been a fan of WH40K especially space marines (dark angels), imperial guard and orks in that order. This movie was a bit of a let down and I realise it was made on a minimal budget but my only problem with this movie is the portrayal of the space marines, they are showed as less than superhuman, constantly bickering and making snide remarks at each other, they die after one shot mostly ( but 6-7 shots to take out a chaos marine) , keep taking their helmets off in the battlefield?.The marines I remember reading about over the years in novels and the magazines were insane killers who were virtually one man armies held in awe by their own people and in fear by other races.
Their is beautiful stuff here, battle barge, thunderhawk gunship, power swords, chainswords, heavy bolter, flamer etc......but one squad on a battle barge (12 men), some of the visuals are excellent (the scenes of the imperial fist battlefield devestation), the black legion chaos marines and the imperial fist chaplain but some of the rest is terrible.
The story is that an ultamarine squad plus apothecary and captain head to a planet and a shrine guarded by a company of imperial fists after an emergency beacon is activated, when they arrive they find most of the imperial fists dead and the mark of chaos is everywhere and they fight to find out what happened and get off the planet alive but chaos is everywhere and has plans of its own.I watched it until the end and I applaud the movie been made in the first place but what could have been with a better budget and a different chapter......Ultramarines have always been a problem for me too perfect and a bit preachy for my liking.

I don't know how I feel about this movie after watching it, great performances from the majority of the cast but I didn't really care for any of them as I didn't really get to know or like them. The violence when it comes is shocking and quite brutal and directed mainly at women and the beating of women (some of it enjoyed by the women) but the ending when it come is not that much of a surprise as it thinks it is.
The movie is set in a small town in America where a deputy sheriff goes about his revenge for past greivances and starts a chain of murders for money and his revenge, he is suspected of the murders quite early by some and suspected by others but people don't want to believe. The intensity of the womens love for our killer is quite intense and ultimately theirs and his downfall, I really don't know about the rating for this movie and I heard that the book the movie is based on is quite excellent but I don't know if I would read it.Strange.

I have loved the Punisher ever since I picked up the first issue comic book back in the day and I consider him one of the greatest villian/vigilante character in comics and movies. The first movie was with Dolph Lundgren playing the pivotal role (still a very good movie to this day), then followed Thomas Jane's version ( not bad but slighty hampered by John Travolta's villian) and now we have Ray Stevenson and his version of one of the Punisher's comic series.
The Punisher (Frank Castle) is 6 years into his vigilante vendetta against crime after the murder of his family by criminals and is picking on a mob family and one member mad Billy Russoti escapes and through an accident involving glass he becomes a monster of a character called Jigsaw (during this incident an undercover federal agent is killed by the Punisher aswell). The Punisher decides to give it all up but the threat to the dead undercover agents family brings the Punisher back into action against Jigsaw and his gang and a lot more bad guys and a case of whuppass is opened.
The acting from some is over the top but Stevenson is very good as the brooding Frank Castle, the action is gory, fast and exciting and over the top a bit but all in all this is my favorite version of the Punisher legend on celluloid but only just ahead of Dolph's.

Right first off apologies for the lack of posts between the weather, christmas break, man flu and forgetting for a little while that I had a second blog things have been poor and they may not be getting better because I am reviewing cartoons and even worse it was very good and made me smile a lot (not laugh out loud mind you).
This is a fun watch depicting a bad guy/villian Dr.Gru who has plans to steal the moon but is been thwarted at every turn by a young villian Vector, so one day he sees 3 orphans ( so insanely cutely drawn the illustrator must have passed out through sugary sweet overload or at least lost his teeth) selling cookies enter the young villians lair quite easily with their product (our older villian has failed miserably by this stage and our older villian adopts them to gain access to the younger villians lair to retrieve shrinking ray (goddamit this is getting confusing) but starts to love them then not and loses them but gains them again (good grief). The shrinking ray gun is wonderful and a must have for stealing the moon but it does have a drawback (you'll see), I know its a strange review and not that comphrensive but all I'll say is give it a go but don't tell anyone unless you have kids and use them as an excuse (I don't have kids of my own).
Okay the animation is excellent, the minions (the little one and two eyed yellow tic tac looking guys) are brilliant and the highlight of the movie, everything is good and perfect for adults and obviously kids and make sure to keep watching the credits at the end because there is more minion shenanigans.
The minions are brilliant and I want some.
